Message	the original core had a differant fastening arrangement for how the coolant pipe flanges mated to the heater core. Nissan probably made a part change in later years? Somewhere else this FAQ was posted (Australian Z site?) and when I did my core repair I made a point to compare the old and new fittings -- I wouldn't have been able to swap the two cores because of how the flanges fastened up. Nice job on your write-up tho....
